🪶 Paths of Hope — Devotional 6: God Restores Families

📖 God’s Word

“Do not be distressed or angry with yourselves for selling me here, because it was to save lives that God sent me ahead of you.” — Genesis 45:5

📚 The Story

Joseph’s brothers had done something terrible — they sold him as a slave when he was young.

He was taken far away, to a distant country, among a different people. There, he faced many hardships, but God was with him.

In time, Joseph was blessed. God gave him wisdom, and he became a man of great responsibility — in charge of storing food during a severe famine.

Years later, the famine led his brothers to that very land — without knowing Joseph was now a powerful man.

When they arrived, they didn’t recognize him. But Joseph recognized them.

He wanted to know if their hearts had changed. So he made a plan: he asked them to bring their youngest brother — the one who had stayed with their father.

When they returned with the youngest, Joseph said he would stay as a slave.

But one of the brothers, Judah, stepped forward and said:
“Please let me stay in his place. I cannot bear to see our father suffer.”

Judah offered to become a slave to save his brother. He chose to suffer for the sake of his family.

When Joseph heard this, he couldn’t hold back his emotions. He cried out:
“I am Joseph, your brother!”

He forgave them and said:
“Don’t be sad for selling me. God sent me ahead of you to save lives.”

Then he embraced them. A broken family was made whole again.

🌿 Let’s Reflect Together

Sometimes, within a single family, there’s pain, conflict, abandonment, or harsh words.

Hearts grow distant. Ties break — like a fishing net torn apart.

But God is like the patient fisherman. He sits by the riverbank and, thread by thread, mends the broken net.

With love, He can rebuild what sin has destroyed.

That’s what He did with Joseph’s family.

And that’s what Jesus continues doing today.

He restores families, heals relationships, and rebuilds what was broken.

With Him, no story is too far gone.

🔥 What Can We Do?

✔️ Talk with your family — even if there’s long-standing silence.
✔️ Forgive those who hurt you — even if it takes time.
✔️ Ask God to begin stitching the net back together.

💬 Question for Conversation

Do you want to see your family restored by God? Are you willing to take the first step?

✝️ Where Do We See Jesus Here?

Jesus, a descendant of Judah, also gave Himself in someone else’s place.

On the cross, He carried our sins — and also the wounds we carry from family.

He is the older brother who welcomes us with grace and reconciliation.

With Him, our families can be healed.

With Him, even the most broken stories can be rewritten.

🙏 Let’s Pray Together

“Lord, You know the pain in our family. You know what happened. Give us hearts like Joseph — willing to forgive, to embrace, to begin again. Restore our relationships through Your love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
