🪶 Paths of Hope — Devotional 9: You Are No Longer Slaves to the Spirits
📖 God’s Word
“So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” — John 8:36
📚 The Story
Jesus crossed the sea and arrived in a region where a man possessed by many evil spirits lived. This man stayed among the tombs, was extremely violent, and no one could control him. He screamed day and night and wounded himself with stones.
But when he saw Jesus from a distance, he ran to Him and knelt before Him. The spirits began to shout, but Jesus rebuked them with authority. After Jesus set the man free, he was calm, clothed, and in his right mind. The townspeople were astonished.
The man wanted to follow Jesus, but Jesus said:
“Go home to your family and tell them how much the Lord has done for you.”
And the man obeyed. Wherever he went, he told how Jesus had set him free — and everyone was amazed.
(Mark 5:1–20)
🌿 Let’s Reflect Together
Since ancient times, many peoples have lived in fear of spirits — those said to dwell in the forest, the rivers, the sky, and the earth. These spirits are often seen as owners of things, capable of bringing blessing or curse. That’s why some perform prayers, rituals, or offerings, trying to protect themselves or please these invisible powers.
But there is news that changes everything: you no longer need to live in fear.
Have you ever felt afraid while walking through the forest at night? The darkness, the sounds, the unknown — everything feels threatening. Many grow up hearing stories of spirits or enchanted beings that rule certain places. But when the light comes, fear disappears.
That’s how it is with Jesus. He is the light that enters the forest of the soul. He shows that there’s no reason to fear anymore. With Him, even a dark path becomes a place of peace.
Jesus came to break the chains of fear and oppression. When He died on the cross and rose again, He defeated all the powers of evil. No spirit, curse, or spell has authority over those who belong to Christ.
Those who give their lives to Jesus now have a new Master — they are no longer slaves to the spirits, but children of God, filled with the Holy Spirit.
The apostle Paul wrote:
“He has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son He loves.” (Colossians 1:13)
That means that when you surrender to Jesus, your life changes territory. You move from the kingdom of darkness into the Kingdom of Light — where there is freedom, truth, healing, and protection.
🔥 What Can We Do?
✔️ Surrender completely to Jesus.
✔️ Renounce every alliance made with spirits, enchantments, or occult practices.
✔️ Confess with your mouth: “Jesus is our Lord. We belong only to Him.”
✔️ Ask the Holy Spirit to fill your life with peace, courage, and joy.
✝️ Where Do We See Jesus Here?
On the cross, Jesus defeated every power of evil. He took upon Himself the punishment that brings us peace.
And He rose again to give us a new life — free from fear, oppression, and spiritual slavery.
When fear comes, look to Jesus.
Speak His name with faith.
In the name of Jesus, there is freedom, strength, and light.
🙏 Let’s Pray Together
“Lord Jesus, we acknowledge that You are the one true God. We reject every evil spirit, every fear, and every form of oppression. We no longer belong to darkness. We belong to You. Reign over our lives. Fill us with Your Holy Spirit. In Your name, we declare: we are free. Amen.”
